This poster was designed for the 1984 conference, "The China Hands' Legacy: Ethics and Diplomacy" Partially funded by the Montana Committee for the Humanities, this conference addressed the fact that American foreign service officers and journalists suffered personally and professionally for reporting events as they saw them in China during and after World War II. Forty years later, their experiences provide a case study for the exploration of the ethical dilemmas posed when an individual is caught between the policy of his government and what he considers the empirical truth.
